IN this week’s Cornish Times, in shops from today (Friday), we lead with the news that, following further ferry delays despite the return of the vessel Plym II from its refit, the management committee has been asked to carry out a review – and a councillor has demanded assurances that the problems are not because the management is trying to cut costs on maintenance.

We also hear about organisations which have been preparing and distributing food boxes and donations to families in need around the area.

South East Cornwall MP Sheryll Murray gives us her take on the result of the House of Commons vote of no confidence in Prime Minister Theresa May – in which she voted against the premier.

We have lots of pictures from Looe’s special Christmas events, which saw Santa Claus braving blustery conditions to make his now traditional arrival by lifeboat in the port.

We also report that it is a special Christmas for one of the town’s cafe owners as she celebrates reaching the end of her treatment for a rare form of cancer.

There has been a funding boost for a Liskeard organisation seeking to make the town single-use plastics free – and a campaigner and author has visited the town’s bookshop with a whale of a tale aimed at getting youngsters to back the same cause.

Meanwhile the town’s traders have produced a fun video take on the 12 Days of Christmas carol aimed at encouraging shoppers to support local businesses.

As already highlighted on the Cornish Times website, we have details of the Christmas toy Elfie’s fun festive season exploits, plus two pages on celebrations marking Polperro Fioshermen’s Choir’s 95th anniversary. Youngsters at a village school have also been learning that there is more to Advent than calendars and chocolates.

Meanwhile we have details of a number of National Lottery grants made to local organisations and to improve village halls in South East Cornwall.

This week’s paper carries a special Farming and Equestrian section, and in his latest Nature Watch column photographer Ray Roberts asks if Cornish Times readers know what became of a well-known tree with a particularly distinctive profile.

We also have out weekly TV Choice, Cornish Times Recipe and Books columns.

There is all this and more in this week’s Cornish Times, in shops from today (Friday).
