In this week’s Cornish Times, in shops from today (Friday), we lead with some of the background to Monday’s dramatic incident in which police officers – some armed – closed off part of Liskeard town centre while searching for a wanted man.
We also report on various climate change protests which have been taking place around South East Cornwall, and also have a full-page feature on some of the heart-wrenching stories of wartime heroism and sacrifice that have inspired a new memorial that is to be unveiled in Torpoint this weekend. Saltash, too, is planning special remembrance events to mark 80 years since the start of the Second World War and the 75th anniversary of D-Day.
We also report on discussions which have been under way to solve traffic flow problems at Saltash’s Gilston Road junction, and have dramatic pictures of Polperro’s refurbished harbour gate being floated back from Par Docks and raised back into position.
Meanwhile artists are being sought to paint a mural in Liskeard telling the story of Boer War heroine Emily Hobhouse, and to design a promotional logo for Linkinhorne-based theatre group The Arc.
This week’s Cornish Times also carries a feature with pictures on the successful Liskeard Unlocked Heritage Open Days events, a spread of colourful pictures from Torpoint Carnival, and for railway enthusiasts a page of photos of the magnificent LMS steam locomotive Duchess of Sutherland visiting our area, as well as action at the Bodmin & Wenford heritage railway’s diesel gala.
We are again featuring our competition in which 10 lucky readers can each win pairs of tickets to a show inspired by the hit TV series Grand Designs, where you can get all kinds of inspiration and advice for your own home renovation and makeover projects.
As well as lots of your community news and pictures, this week’s packed edition has a two-page guide to Liskeard’s St Matthew’s Fair, two pages on Farming and Equestrian matters, a special section on Training and Tuition, four pages on Motoring matters and our regular columns including Ray Roberts’ Nature Watch, Letters, Recipe of the Week, TV Choice, Puzzles, latest Books and 11 pages of Sport from around the area.
Find all this and more in this week’s Cornish Times, in shops from today (Friday).
