In this week’s Cornish Times, in shops from today (Friday), we lead with a report on police shutting a flat being used as a drugs den in Saltash.

Local residents had reported that vulnerable youngsters were frequenting the property, as well as issues of cars coming and going late into the night, noise and shouting, and acts of violence and intimidation. Our reporter accompanied police on the raid.

We also have a report on the meeting held into the antisocial behaviour that temporarily closed the Ashtorre Rock community centre, and show how public-spirited people in Saltash are helping to keep it open after all.

In other news, Cornwall’s first Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) unit has opened, meaning that young people no longer have to treated hundreds of miles from home.

We also report on how a generous donation from Liskeard Community Hospital’s League of Friends means that family members can stay close to loved ones approaching the end of their lives.

In addition, this week saw the opening of Cornwall’s new archives centre, Kresen Kernow, housing 850 years of the county’s history under one roof. Liskeard’s mayor, Rachel Brooks, attended the preview evening prior to the opening. We also have a round-up of historic buildings that will be ‘unlocked’ to the public during this month’s Heritage Open Days event.

With Brexit very much in the national news, we report on a protest held outside South East Cornwa;; MP Sheryll Murray’s Liskeard office, as well as giving Mrs Murray’s views on the Operation Yellowhammer report outlining the Government’s worst-case assumptions regarding a no-deal Brexit.

Meanwhile family members have paid tribute to a young Torpoint motorcyclist who died in a collision near Antony. We also have a special tribute to the South East Cornwall artist Marjorie Blamey who has died at the age of 101.

In our Leisure section we report that this month’s Looe Live! festival is to feature classical music, including a performance by a harpist who performed at Prince Harry and Meghan Markel’s wedding.

There are two competitions in this week’s edition: one in four-page Property section in which 10 lucky readers can each win pairs of tickets to a show inspired by the hit TV series Grand Designs, and another in our three pages covering Farming matters in which three readers can win pairs of tickets to the Dairy Show 2019.

As well as lots of your community news and pictures, including reports from several village horticulture and craft shows, this week’s packed edition has three pages on Motoring matters and our regular columns including Ray Roberts’ Nature Watch, Letters, Recipe of the Week, TV Choice, Puzzles, latest Books and 10 pages of Sport from around the area.
