Once again the team at the Cornish Times have been able to produce your favourite local weekly paper, although because we are all now working from home readers will have to bear with us and forgive the reduced number of pages.

This week’s three editions – the main South East Cornwall edition, the Saltash edition and the Bodmin edition – all lead with a repetition of the unprecedented order from Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the Government that we should all stay at home and limit any journeys to those meeting a strict list of criteria.

We have a plea from residents of the Rame Peninsula for visitors to stay away and to stop congregating on local beaches in a way that ignores the social distancing and travel guidance, and we have a friend’s tribute to a Tywardreath man who has passed away as a result of the virus.

In our 999 emergency services column the police also warn that people need to be wary of coronavirus-themed frauds by telephone scammers and other criminals.

However, it’s not all doom and gloom. We have the lovely story and pictures of a couple who were due to get married in Liskeard’s parish church on St George’s Day next month, but then, after being notified by the vicar that the lockdown was about to happen, had to race to church to get wed just hours before the shutdown came into place.

We are also repeating the message that when we are one, we are strong and by acting together and following the social distancing guidance we can beat the virus.

We also report that millions of pounds have been raised by a national coronavirus emergency appeal, with a proportion of that being distributed around the county by the Cornwall Community Foundation, and more than half a million British people have signed up to volunteer under a scheme helping the hard-pressed NHS.

And what is more, in just four days generous supporters have helped a local foodbank to reach their fundraising target so they can obtain a new van in which to make deliveries to those in need, just as demand for the service surged by 400 per cent.

We have an ‘Open for business’ section, informing local struggling businesses about a rates relief grant that is being made available, and with messages of support and guidance from Liskeard Town Forum and Callington’s portreeve. There is also the news that the Tamar tolls have been temporarily suspended. In addition, there’s a ‘Deliveries to your door’ section about cafes and restaurants that will bring food to you if you are self-isolating.

Of course, not the whole paper is about coronavirus. We also have Ray Roberts’ latest Nature Watch words and pictures, the TV Choice column, the Puzzles page and a Farming and Equestrian section, plus Property and Motoring features and six pages of Sport action.

So find all this in the latest issue of the Cornish Times, in shops from today (Friday).
