For the first time, there will be late trains back from Plymouth to the Tamar Valley, and Liskeard after the British  Firework Championships on Wednesday 14 and Thursday 15 August.

On both days, the Tamar Valley train will leave Plymouth station at 11.20pm and call at all stations to Gunnislake. The train to Liskeard and Penzance will leave at 11.15pm and call at Saltash, St Germans, Liskeard, Bodmin Parkway and principal stations to Penzance.

A late return train from Plymouth to the Tamar Valley has long been an aspiration of locals.   Surveys carried out last year asked what improvements people would like to see to the train service.  They found that people would like to see a later train from Plymouth, to allow them to spend an evening out in the city and still return home by train.

The late trains for the Firework Championships are the first late services out of Plymouth to Tamar Valley line stations since the early 90s and the Devon & Cornwall Rail Partnership sees them as a ‘toe in the water’ trial for more late trains.

Partnership Manager Richard Burningham said: ‘We are really pleased that GWR have been able to arrange the late Tamar Valley Line trains for the Firework Championships.  We have long requested these but it has not been possible to organise them until now.  They are a toe in the water for more late trains back from Plymouth and it is really important that these ones are well used.’
