PREMIER DIVISION Elburton Villa 0 Torpoint Athletic 1 (Wednesday) THE Tamarsiders moved up to sixth place in the Premier Division after this late, but deserved, victory at Haye Road. Torpoint were the first to show in the early evening sunshine at Elburton, with Jamie Evans risking injury by flying in at the far post to send in a header that was grabbed on the line by home goalkeeper Simon May. Darren Hicks' cross-cum-shot was tipped over the bar by May, before Rob Eddie released Liam Thornton, but his first touch let him down and May dived bravely at his feet to save. Thornton was unlucky on the half-hour as his back-header, from a Gary Williams corner, hit the Villa post as the first half ended goalless. Elburton had a great chance to open the scoring in the first minute of the second half as substitute Roger Bonaparte raced clear, but Joey Syndercombe maintained the status quo with a great save. Torpoint replied with Eddie's drive coming back off the bar, before the Torpoint striker won his race with May, only to shoot wide of the near post. Torpoint continued to dictate matters and Hicks' fine solo run along the byline was ended by May blocking his shot from an acute angle with his legs. The visitors finally gained reward for their endeavours, but it was not until the game had entered the second minute of stoppage time that substitute Lewis Kershaw's low cross found Hicks getting in where it hurts to prod the ball past May, and a defender, and into an unguarded net.
