Liskeard's Relay For Life was a roaring success, raising more than £78,000 for Cancer Research UK.

Almost 500 people lined up at the start of the relay run at Liskeard School, which began with a speech from new mayor of Liskeard Tony Powell.

Cancer survivors ran the first lap of honour, then the relay kicked in with several themed laps throughout the rest of the 24-hour event, including a three-legged lap, superhero lap and conga lap.

Pelynt Male Voice Choir provided accompaniment to the candle of hope ceremony, with survivors carrying candle lanterns around the track.

Certificates were handed to all those who took part and a final wrap-up party will be held on Friday, June 26, at the Sports Club in Liskeard. The volunteer Relay for Life Committee would like to thank all of the teams who took part and all the companies and organisations who supported the event.
