The lst of May saw Lanreath come alive as virtually the whole Parish arrived in the centre of the village to enjoy a wonderful May Day celebration.

A floral dance lead by St Pinnock Junior Band, the May Queen riding on a cart pulled by Gertie the donkey, Maypole dancing featuring the children from our own primary school, side shows, speeches, a parish photo, a town crier, cream teas, barbecue (300 burgers sold in 2.5 hrs), crazy football, children's races, tug of war, singers entertaining the queues for the church tower, an historic exhibition in the church (still running and free), an evening barn dance and to cap it all the sun shone!

On behalf of Lanreath Parish Council I should like to convey our thanks to the small group who had the vision, motivation and stamina to make this day such a success - they are Marion Facey, Gill Prince, John Tindale Powell, Kate and Kayleigh Puckey, Ann Rescorle and Peggy Penhaligan.

Our thanks also to the large team of helpers who supported the whole event without whom it really would not have been possible.

Please note that all profits from the day and from the sale of photos this Saturday night in the Rally Club are to be held in a newly established Amenities Fund to be administered by the Parish Council for the good of the community.
