A PROPOSAL to build a new landing stage for boats on East Looe beach has moved a step forward with the news this week that a grant of £5,000 from Awards for All has been approved to pay for a feasibility study. The University of Plymouth will carry out the study to see if it is possible to build the landing stage on the East side of the area known as Tom Barbers', rock, a construction which could cost in the region of £200,000. Chairman of East Looe Town Trust which owns the site, Wally Scarah, said the landing stage would provide a facility for boats when the tide is out in Looe river, which would be good for the port and local livelihoods. It would also mean better access to boats for disabled people. 'The Trust is hoping this will be a successful project for the good of the town, and we are grateful for the help we have received from all quarters, especially Tina Hicks, the Harbour Board's Chief Executive,' he said.
