A LISKEARD youngster will soon have her first trip to the hairdresser – so she can donate her long locks to a child who has lost theirs.

Eight-year-old Kya Lumsden has been growing her hair specially for a year, so she can donate it to the Little Princess Trust. The Hillfort School pupil was inspired by her brave friend and classmate Erin Lewsey, who had to undergo treatment for cancer.

'I've trimmed Kya's hair before, but she's never had a proper haircut,' said mum Emma Lumsden. 'She loves nothing more than having her hair braided and put up nicely, so this is a very courageous decision – I'm very proud at her act of kindness.'

As well as donating her hair itself, Kya is hoping to raise as much money as she can, as she has discovered that each wig costs roughly £350 to make.
