Keep Looe supermarket-free

I would like to add my support to Tony Eaton and Chris Tamblin (letters in the Cornish Times last week and the previous week) concerning the subject of a Tesco store in Looe.

If such an application were to be approved, then what would be lost is irreplaceable.

The community spirit is still found in East Looe, West Looe and, indeed, extends beyond, to Hannafore and Barbican, and this spirit is engendered in no small measure by the pleasant and sociable experience of shopping in Looe - to meet and greet friends and acquaintances to chat and generally catch up on news of our town.

The wide variety of shops in Looe provides for most needs: banks, post offices, fresh fish from the quay, grocers, an excellent butcher, plus several high-class gift shops and ladies and gentlemens outfitters. I rest my case.

A supermarket development on the Millpool would create a commercial desert in the midst of Looe - please visit Liskeard if an illustration is needed. The unique character of Looe would undoubtedly disappear and any jobs would be filled by the present business people of Looe and their employees.

How many local people visit friends and family in other parts of the UK and return home appreciating more than ever what we have in Looe? Please don't allow it to be ruined.
