There was a surprise result for ladies darts player Kate Bowden when she went into labour during a match and gave birth a few hours later! Kate, 26, from Sunrising, Looe, became the proud mother of a 7lb 1oz girl soon after going home having completed the match. She and husband Karl have decided to name the baby Paige. It was while playing with her team, the Deckers, against the Socialites at Looe Social Club, on Wednesday evening of last week, that Kate felt what she described as the first 'tightenings' but put them down the stress of the match at first. 'I was due but we didn't expect her to arrive that evening. I thought it was just a false alarm and carried on playing,' she said this week. 'Karl was at home looking after the other children – we finished the match and I went home and had gone to bed when we realised it really was all happening!' Kate was taken to Derriford hospital where she gave birth at 6.30am on Thursday. 'It was quite a shock to find myself having a baby just a few hours after playing darts with my friends,' she said. Twinges Mother-in-law Trinet Bowden was playing in the opposite team for the Social Club and like everyone else thought nothing of Kate's twinges, especially when she carried on playing. Kate reckons her defeat may have been affected by what was about to happen! Fellow Socialites player Carole Spring said the two teams had enjoyed a great evening and Kate had gone home at 11.30pm. 'We couldn't believe it when we heard she had given birth later that night – she had complained that she felt a bit niggly in the back but it didn't seem to bother her.'
