All are welcome to a special event taking place in Liskeard library on Friday next, March 3 at 7pm, when Kate Fereday, founder of The Kindu Trust, which has opened homes to help the orphans of Ethiopia, will tell her fascinating story.

Thirty eight year old Kate is from Plymouth and first went to Ethiopia during Christmas 1994. She had been making mince pies when images of starving and weeping children in the streets stopped her in her tracks. She felt she had to help and found herself in the Hope Orphanage. When she got back to Plymouth she contacted schools, rest homes and friends until she had found a pen pal for each one of the children she had met. She said it made such a difference to them to know that someone cared.

After meeting a street boy called Kindu she decided that more homes were needed and in July 1998 the Kindu Trust was born which now has four homes. Kate has given up her job and is now a full time Trust volunteer. All the money raised goes directly to the children.
