A 10km walk around a historic Cornish estate raising funds to help beat cancer is being revived this year thanks to a South East Cornwall woman who has fought the disease.
Joy Parker, from Saltash, was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2000 but thanks to early diagnosis and treatment she has been given the all-clear.
Now, alongside other volunteers from Liskeard and the surrounding area, she has taken on the organisation of Stride Cornwall – a walk around the historic National Trust estate at Lanhydrock next month which will raise funds for Cancer Research UK.
Joy said: ‘This beautiful 10k walk was first held in 2001 and myself and other supporters were disappointed when it didn’t happen in 2015. I have taken part in every single Stride Cornwall event at Lanhydrock and I decided that this year, with my help, it would go ahead.’
To help promote the event she joined Cancer Research UK local committee members from Liskeard and St Minver in meeting four of Wadebridge’s firefighters who are urging people to support the charity’s vital work, including Josh Plowman, who raised £1,200 for Cancer Research UK in June.
Stride Cornwall will take place at Lanhydrock on Sunday, November 6, beginning at 11am. The cost of entry for adults is £10, but under 18s can take part free of charge. To sign up visit www.cruk.org/stride
