A YOUNG man who says he feels lucky to have reached the age of 21 has released a single reflecting his journey.

Jonathon Inkin has the backing of X Factor celebrity contestant and news presenter Martin Bashir for his song ‘Horizons’ .

Joanthon, who lives in Callington, has the rare condition Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

‘I’ve always loved music and over the last couple of years I’ve had lots of people asking to record my own song,’ said Jonathon.

‘I worked on the Horizons single with my sister Louise and it’s about me and my journey with Duchenne, a serious muscle wasting condition mainly affecting boys.

‘ I stopped walking at age 11. Our life expectancy isn’t very long as your heart and lungs are muscles and also weakened. I feel very lucky to make it to 21 and that’s why I am proud to support Action Duchenne, a charity whose vision is for a world where lives are no longer limited by Duchenne.’

Jonathon says his musical influences range from Frank Sinatra to singer-songwriters such as Alec Benjamin.

Motivation

‘It was meeting Alec at his show in Cardiff and talking about touring and music that made me think, I really want this for myself,’ he said.

‘That gave me the bit of motivation I needed to drive myself to do it, so a massive thanks to Alec.’

Journalist and news presenter Martin Bashir became patron of Action Duchenne following the loss of his brother Tommy, aged 29, to Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Bashir participated in X Factor Celebrity in tribute to his brother.

He gave his support to Jonathon with the following message: ‘Jonathon – what fabulous efforts you’re making and I know you’re going to smash it!’

Jonathon’s single can be downloaded from Spotify, Google Play and other platforms and to support his fundraising for Action Duchenne, go to www.justgiving.com and search for Jonathon’s Horizons.
