MP Sheryll Murray is urging people in her South East Cornwall constituency to sign up for the Cornwall Together scheme which could save householders up to £432 a year on their heating bills.

The organisation was set up by the Eden Project, NHS, and Cornwall Council to group-buy gas, electricity and oil for the people of the county. Once enough people have signed up, and it is hoped at least 20,000 households will do so, CornwallTogether.com will go to the fuel companies and negotiate a cheaper deal.

In just a few weeks since the scheme was first launched, the first of its kind in the country, more than 3,000 householders have already registered their interest. Cornwall Together says the interest so far is very encouraging.

A Bring Your Bill Energy Roadshow, explaining the scheme, kicks off at Looe Music Festival on Friday at 11am, and next month will visit the Eden Cafe on Monday, October 1, from 3pm-7pm, Callington Honey Fair on Wednesday, October 3, from 9.30am-5pm, and Saltash Library on Friday, October 5, from 10.30am-4.30pm.

'This is a great way for the people of Cornwall to save money on their gas and electricity bills,' said Mrs Murray. 'All you have to do is give CornwallTogether.com some details from your fuel bills and you could save hundreds of pounds. It will really help those who are struggling to stay warm this winter.'

Project director at Eden Matt Hastings said: 'The scheme is free to use, takes five minutes and is easy to do.

'Once we have secured a cheaper deal for people's energy we will come back to people with options for them to switch suppliers. They don't have to switch, and if they do it is very easy.'

Free loft and cavity wall insulation can also be accessed by homeowners and private tenants who sign up to CornwallTogether. com on a time-limited offer.

Leading the campaign, which started from Liskeard, where it is hoped up to 1,000 householders will sign up, are Dawn Bebe, director of Onshore, and Georgina Moss (21) who is from the town, this being her first job.

If you can't make a roadshow, freepost leaflets can be picked up from Mrs Murray's office in Windsor Place, Liskeard, and from local libraries.
