Wadebridge hadn't played a game since the 27th November and it showed. Saltash certainly capitalised on Town's lack of match fitness.
Mike Southgate put the Ashes ahead in the 20th minute with a fine run down the sloping right wing, his shot beating the advancing Mark Gears in goal. Four minutes later Saltash should have scored again when Wadebridge had trouble clearing the ball from the penalty area. The Bridgers missed a chance in the 29th minute when Ben Hayden beat the Ashes defence, only for West to clear the ball. Although Adrian Hart headed the rebound towards goal it went straight to West, who was able to hold onto the ball this time.
Neil Lapthorn, returning to play for the Ashes, was warmly welcomed back, particularly when he scored their second goal with 54 minutes gone. Mat Penry missed with an effort from long range a minute later and Eddie Shapland's shot 10 minutes later was saved by Gears. Saltash exerted more pressure in the 67th minute forcing a series of corners, but they failed to score, whilst Penry had a shot cleared off the line in the 74th minute.
Wadebridge pulled a goal back with 82 minutes gone when Ben Hayden's shot was deflected over Charles West. However, Saltash scored their third goal with four minutes of the game remaining. A fine cross from the right wing by substitute Mike Doel found Mike Southgate who made no mistake with his shot to score his second goal of the game.
