Prior to the match kicking off Mike Southgate of Saltash Utd was presented with the match ball from Ashes game against Truro City during which he had scored four of the six goals conceded by Truro a few days before.
The game against Falmouth saw a fair bit of pressure from Saltash at the start. Falmouth found the pace of Mike Southgate hard to cope with. In the 11th minute Saltash were awarded a free kick but Mat Penry's shot went straight to the Falmouth keeper, as did a shot by Southgate from the corner of the box. New signing Richard Daly (Bodmin) shot over the bar after 33 minutes following two successive corners. Saltash deservedly went in front on 38 minutes when Mike Southgate intercepted a back pass from Chris Tomlinson and rounded the keeper to score from close range.
Falmouth proved more competitive in the second half forcing two corners in the opening minutes. Andy Green beat Falmouth's offside trap in the 50th minute but his shot on goal went wide. Wayne Toon, another new signing for the Ashes, replaced Jon Pidgen after 65 minutes. Falmouth finally equalised following a goalmouth melee through Andy Street with 13 minutes left. In the remaining time chances fell at both ends but the defences of both teams held out.
