Callington's continuing rebuilding process received a timely boost on Saturday as Ian Southcott's young side fought back from a 3-1 half time deficit to inflict a third defeat of the season on rivals Torpoint and in so doing take revenge on the 4-2 defeat handed to them by Athletic in the first league encounter earlier on in the season.

Gary Smith was the hero of the Town performance laying on all four goals and dominating midfield. Callington took the lead on five minutes when Smith set up teenage striker Chris Gerry whose cross shot was side footed home by another 19 year old, Gary Williams. But this was the cue for the visitors who hit back with a three goal spurt before half time which they thought had killed off the game. Tony Cusack headed the equaliser and further goals followed from Darren Northcott and Bob Evans to give Torpoint a 3-1 interval lead.

The Town revival hit the tracks on the hour. 18 year old Peter Southcott had just come on as substitute and with virtually his first touch he fired home Smith's smart cross past Scott Kippax in the Athletic goal to reduce the arrears. With 20 minutes to go, Gerry volleyed home the goal of the game after being fed by Smith to equalise, and then, five minutes later Smith popped up again to supply Nathan Hicks and the Town captain found the net for the winner.
