A SALTASH youngster has won a bike in a countywide colouring competition. James Turner, a pupil at Burraton School, took the first prize in the competition set up during Walk to School week last year. Children were asked to colour a picture with children from across the world walking to school, and James took first in the Key Stage One section. The prize was just one of the awards given in a special Travel Awareness Award ceremony at New County Hall. The ceremony applauded walking and cycling heroes from across Cornwall – parents, teachers and members of the community who have devoted their time, enthusiasm and energy in setting up walking buses, cycle training and developing school travel plans. Matt McTaggart, Cornwall County Council's Executive member for strategic planning and transport, said: 'Behind every one of the success stories acknowledged at the award ceremony, there are people who have put in a lot of hard work and determination. 'It is good to see their achievements recognised and I and my colleagues congratulate everyone involved.' Pete Keyes, Travel Awareness team leader, said: 'Pupils, parents, teachers and governors are the key people who make walking and cycling initiatives work; this ceremony is our opportunity to thank them.'
