A CORNISH charity whose marathon challenge raised more than £46,000 last month is going one step further with its ’Cornwall Hospice Care Ironman’
CHC’s Your Marathon Your Pace’ event saw almost 500 adults, children and their dogs pledge to walk or run a half or full marathon over four weeks in May.
Together the fundraisers brought in £46,503, funding 2,325 hours of nursing care at the charity’s two hospices.
Currently, the charity is encouraging supporters to cycle 100 miles by the end of June. Anyone still wishing to sign up for the cycle should visit www.cornwallhospicecare.co.uk/events/tourdecornwall
And registration for a swimming event will open on Friday (June 12) – meaning that people can become a ’Cornwall Hospice Care Ironman’.
Events and Community manager Mel Evans said: ’The eagle eyed would have spotted earlier that we’ve offered a marathon followed by a 100 mile cycle and it hasn’t passed us by, so we thought if we added a 2.4 mile swim in July we would have ourselves an Ironman Triathlon!
’To make this inclusive, like the marathon and the cycle, we won’t insist on a swim: if you’d rather you can surf it or paddle it.
’You’ll have the whole month to reach the target and there’ll be another fabulous Team CHC Lockdown Triathlon Medal if you complete all three challenges.
Oli Hoare is Cornwall Hospice Care’s Head of Fundraising; “We’ve been blown away by the success of our virtual marathon and the stories that have come out of it. Two dogs and their owners walked three marathon distances in the four weeks, some ran a marathon on the morning we launched the challenge and others have done a mile or so a day to get to their target. I thank them all and their reward is a bespoke medal and the knowledge they’ve funded 2,325 hours of nursing care.’
