CALLINGTON'S murals have received some international recognition this week. The town council has been contacted by the chairman of the International Mural Association who wishes to make a tour of the town to view its mural trail. Portreeve Jeremy Gist will conduct the tour, and the council has also been invited to send a representative to the association's conference in Scotland. Cllr Gist added that he hoped the town would get a lot of positive publicity from the visit. Meanwhile, a new mural may be placed above the town's Calweton office, through a project with the town forum and the town council. The forum had written to the council saying that a mural was originally intended for the wall of Callington Social Club, but that had not been prepared. Three designs, from students of the town's community college, are in place depicting 'Callington of the Future'. Cllr Gist suggested that money from the Callington Chamber of Trade, which had been given to the council for a mural, could be used for the project. It was agreed that the money be increased to £1,000 and put towards the scheme.
