AN author hoping to inspire children who may be struggling with learning difficulties has an appealing helper in the form of her husky dog, Mia.

Emily Thuysbaert says that she had a hard time at school due to being dyslexic.

The 36 year old said: ‘I was told that I was stupid and that I didn’t want to learn.

‘But I decided to prove people wrong.’

Emily is now a manager at an organisation that supports young people as they move from care into living independently.

And she is proud of the fact that her book, ‘The Incredible Adventures of Mia’, has been published after three years in the planning.

The project has truly been a family affair - it was written by Emily, illustrated by her mum Pat, and the book itself was made by Emily’s dad, Edmund. It has been produced by local Looe printers KitzKatz.

The book is based around 10 year old Mia and her adventures as she solves a mystery in Looe with the help of her friends.

‘I took the time to research Looe and incorporate the town’s history in the story,’ said Emily.

‘I hope this project will inspire children to dream big dreams and even through they may be struggling with their own learning difficulties, I hope it brings them the belief anything is possible as long as you put your mind to it.’

There will be the chance to meet Mia at the Old Lifeboat Gallery in Looe tomorrow (December 24) from 10am - 4pm. Emily will be reading from the book and there will be crafts and activities for children
