Division One West

Camelford 1

Callington boss Micky Hunt was a delighted manager after watching his side claim their fifth consecutive victory in style at

Trefrew Park.

'It was a great result and another fine performance. as we had at least 80 per cent of the possession, and our passing and movement off the ball was superb,' exclaimed an excited Hunt.

'We now have to focus on another big game when we entertain a talented Truro City side at the Marshfield Parc this Saturday (tomorrow),' he added, quickly getting his feet firmly back on the ground.

This victory took Callington up into second spot – just three points behind title-favourites Penzance – and, if they continue to play in this manner, it is not inconceivable that they will continue to challenge the men from Penlee Park.

Even Camelford boss Reg Hambly had nothing but praise for them, adding: 'Make no mistake – Callington are a very good side who play the ball around well and are probably the best team we have played to date.'

The home side found themselves a goal down after just ten minutes, when good work on the right by Denis Mason set up Ryan Lucassi to fire home his ninth of the season.

To their credit, Camelford hit back and were level five minutes before the break when Clive Allen got on the blind side of the Callington defence before smashing past Thomas Drinka from ten yards.

The Camels were fortunate to go in at the break level, as they hardly posed a threat and spent most of the first 45 on the defensive.

Callington continued to take the game to their hosts after the break and, although Camelford striker Martin Rickard forced a good save out of Drinka, the action was mainly at the other end.

Mike Norman's 18-yard shot came back off the home post before Lucassi wasted two one-on-ones and Ryan McClements missed a great chance to give his side the lead.

A goal had to come – and it did on the hour-mark; Lee Beer ran out of defence, drew the Camels 'keeper and slid the ball into the corner of the net for a fine individual effort.

A third followed on 75 minutes when McClements' corner found Dan Jefferis heading home from five yards.

Norman missed a great chance to add a fourth but, with the game in the 89th minute, Dan Discombe got the final touch in a goalmouth scramble to complete a good day at the office for the visitors.
