TWO former pupils of Looe Community School, who tragically died in a car accident last year, are to be remembered during a sponsored memorial walk on the final day of the spring term.

Eighteen year old best friends, Jacqueline Mitchell and Lianne Dodge, were driving home from Liskeard on November 2, when their car was in collision with a lorry near Horningtops. They are buried together in St Martin's churchyard, not far from their homes and the school.

Almost 600 pupils, plus the staff, families and friends, will take to the road on Wednesday, April 11, and walk to Millendreath and back, a distance of about 4 miles. Some students and staff will be running the route as a further challenge.

The money raised will be used to purchase a seat to be placed on The Wooldown in the girls' memory.

The walk, which will be led by Jacqueline and Lianne's families, will begin from the school at about 1pm, and it has been requested that members of the community wishing to take part should contact Andrea Dodge and Tracey Mitchell so that the numbers can be ascertained.

Looe Community Constable Barry Mills is co-ordinating road safety, and teacher Jim Husk and his Raynet radio team will be assisting. People are being asked to collect and hand in their sponsorship before the walk takes place.

The Rector of St Martin's, Rev Brian McQuillen, will be blessing the walk during the school's Easter service in the morning.

Deputy head Tom Sadler, said that everyone was working together to raise the funds for a fitting memorial to 'two such lovely individuals'.
