THE people of Saltash who attended the recent regeneration of Fore Street exhibition, have come up with ideas and suggestions from all age groups within the community, which are giving local councillors some food for thought.
Some comments pointed to a need for better window displays in shops, and youngsters in the town said they wanted more outlets for young people, selling fashionable clothes and music, and they also want somewhere where they can just hang out. There was also a call for an open market in Alexandra Square Car Park, more shops with high street names such as Woolworths, and lower rents for people trying to start businesses in Fore Street.
It was noted however, that there was a low turn out of traders themselves who actually visited the exhibition.
A stronger police presence in Fore Street on Friday and Saturday evenings was requested and there was a general tidying up view with requests for the planting of more trees and shrubs and better weed control. Improved toilet facilities, and more re-cycling bins for plastic, cans and glass were also wanted.
Another suggestion was a regular stop off point at Saltash pier for boat trips travelling up the Tamar, which was thought could help local tourism, and there was a call was for a free bus service to the Waterside.
