I was captivated and moved to write again to your newspaper upon reading last week's edition. The scope of human foolishness and justice as laid out on your court page takes one's breath away. How can people be so foolish, whether with eggs or fists, and think that they will get away with it? Excess alcohol is so often trotted out as the excuse, and it may indeed be the trigger for such behaviour, but not the excuse. The courts must have heard it time and time again, 'oh, I only hit her because of the drink'. I just hope that some of this will be a lesson to those who can read and absorb such tragic stories of blighted lives. For not only will the poor innocent victims of such people carry the mental scars of their treatment, but the perpetrators will have it on record for the rest of their miserable lives, no mater how much they bluster and preen and pretend that they are proud of their anti-social actions. Onto your letter's page and once again we see unhappy people who notice the bad and silly behaviour of their council members. They write with some gusto as to the short-sightedness of raising the car park charges by so much. Where do they think the money that these people vote themselves comes from? And one has to remember that these are the people that they voted in. Or perhaps they are a part of the majority who don't bother to vote and then complain. If people are really bothered about the huge increases in charges, then they will be sufficiently motivated to vote accordingly. If there is a large groundswell of public opinion saying how unfair these increased charges are, then I'm sure some canny councillor will use it as his/her ticket and be voted straight in with little or no opposition. We wait to see the outcome and whether the charges stay or fall. Did a councillor really think that a microphone was a headphone and stick it in his ear...
