A ROW has broken out over a new estate set to be built in a village.
Residents in Widegates are concerned about the lack of amenities that people moving into the new housing will face.
Planning permission has been granted for 20 affordable homes on land next to The Coach House at Shortacross.
Resident Jane Cobley, who was at the planning meeting, said: 'I have nothing against the new development as it is needed and I love living here, but I do object to the chairman of Morval parish stating at the planning meeting that we have adequate amenities in Widegates.
'The nearest shop is just under half-a-mile away and if you are a young mum with a pushchair, you have to walk down a lethal road and it's not possible to get into Looe before 10.30 on a bus.
'I am just concerned that young families that don't have a car will move into the development and put themselves in danger by walking along a busy road.'
The plan proposes a new pedestrian link from the site to a footpath in the village.
Although the vote for the plans was unanimous, Cornwall Council Highways said it was a very poor place to put housing as the bus service is infrequent and it is inevitable that residents would be very car-dependent.
However, Morval parish chairman Peter Hunt said: 'Where the site is being proposed, it is only a short walk, no more than five minutes, to the farm shop along a road which has grass verges either side and has a 30mph speed limit, so I am not sure how that will be too dangerous for people that are walking.
'As for the bus service, with more people coming into the village, the service will improve if more people speak up about it, things can only change if people ask for them to change and we do need more amenities, but we also need affordable housing.'
Work will start on the site in the next few months.
