TORPOINT is aiming to break a world record on the day of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations on June 4.

Organiser Kim Brownhill with the support of Torpoint Town Partnership, aims to make the longest length of continuous bunting which will hopefully make The Guinness Book of Records.

Kim and her team displayed the first 60 flags at the library, of the 11.736 needed to set the record. The aim is to get all organisations, businesses, schools and individuals in Torpoint to contribute by writing their names, one letter at a time on each individual flag they make. It is estimated that 14,000 plus feet of bunting will circle the 20-acre Thanckes Park twice.

Kim said: 'We do have to meet some strict criteria to claim the world record but I am sure Torpoint can do it!'

Anyone who can help by making bunting or supplying material is asked to contact Kim at Torpoint Town Partnership, at the council hall or Torpoint's Diamond Jubilee Celebrations facebook page. Picture: Paul Roper
