Honours were shared in the Tamarside derby at Mill Park after a full-blooded game was kept well in order by referee Paul Force. Millbrook were on top in the first first but failed to capitalise and this gave Torpoint the confidence to come back in the second session for a deserved point. The game opened at a frantic pace with no quarter asked or given on a pitch that turned out to be soft on top and which started to cut up soon after the kick off. Millbrook established a grip on the game early on and Torpoint keeper Ellis Glassup had to be at his best to stop a Ryan Honey shot and block Ryan Fice's follow-up effort. The home side continued to press and eventually took a 26th minute lead when Andy Bowker broke down the left and drove in a low ball which eventually broke for Honey to gleefully smash into the net from eight yards out. Although well on top, Millbrook could not make all their pressure tell with a second goal and as the end of the first period drew near they seemed to be beginning to run out of steam. It gave Torpoint a boost and the visitors began to edge forward, their best chance coming on 40 minutes when Brian Stacey turned and fired in a 20-yard shot that curled just wide. The second half saw Millbrook pushed back more and more. Torpoint drew level on 67 minutes when, as all around him hesitated, Mike Roberts collected a loose ball, ran on and hammered home from 25 yards into the top right-hand corner. The match burst into life again for the last 10 minutes. First Stacey cut in from the left before unleashing a drive that came back off the underside of the crossbar. Then Glassup saved his side again with another great block, this time from Rob Brimming. Finally, with just a minute left, Stacey again struck the post with a shot and only a timely block by Nigel Pugh prevented the burly Torpoint forward from netting the rebound. Both managers agreed afterwards that a draw was a fair result, though both thought their respective charges could have had all thre points. 'We should have won the game in the first half, but Torpoint worked hard after the break and deserved their point,' said home manager Roger Fice. 'We dominated the second half and are disappointed not to have secured all three points but we'll take a lot of positives from the game into the second half of our season,' said Torpoint's Phil Cardew.
