Town trustees in Looe are doing their bit to help ease the shortage of affordable housing with an innovative scheme on a site in the town. West Looe Town Trust has commissioned the construction of five three-bedroomed houses on the Old Drill Hall Site in Polperro Road, West Looe. The houses have been designed by Bartram Deacon Associates of Looe. The main contractor is CJ Pearce Developments in Liskeard and structural engineers are J Lockyer Associates, also of Liskeard. The trust has undertaken the project in order to help ease the shortage of affordable rental accommodation in Looe for local families. John Curragh, trust clerk, said members were proud of the trust's record of support for community life in Looe over many years. Chairman Mrs Geraldine Oliver said: 'The provision of affordable housing in Looe is very much needed. As a charity, this is very much the type of project where we are able to use our resources to the greatest effect for the benefit of local families.' The houses will be ready for occupation in the early autumn and the trust is now inviting anyone interested, and has a local connection, to apply to them for consideration as a tenant. l Anyone who thinks they may be eligible is asked to register their interest in writing as soon as possible to: The Clerk, West Looe Town Trust, West Looe Square, West Looe, PL13 2EU.
