Liskeard Athletic's East Cornwall Premier League manager Martin Hodge has decided it call it a day at Lux Park after eight years in charge. The 41-year-old former Liskeard and Torpoint Athletic player is standing down at the end of the season, saying: 'I need a break. I'm not saying I'm walking away from the club altogether. I'll stay until the end of the season if they want me to. 'In truth the hunger is not there. I've had eight great years at the club, won 10 trophies as a manager and I have a terrific respect for Liskeard because they are a great club,' he added. In Hodge's eight year tenure the club has won the East Cornwall Premier League title four times, the League Cup three times, the Evely Cup and the Fred Binks Trophy. 'On reflection I think winning the treble in the 2001-2 season was my greatest achievement – that was a fantastic season. 'We beat Torpoint 3-1 in the League Cup and St Ives 3-2 after extra time in the Evely Cup,' said Hodge. 'We've not done so well in the last two seasons. I can only put that down to me, but this season I lost my assistant and my coach and it just became a bit to much,' he said. Blues secretary Brian Olver couldn't praise Hodge enough: 'Martin's record at this level is second to none and we wish him the best whatever he does. We don't want him to leave the club.' Olver added: 'We have no intention of looking for a new manager before the end of the season. We are going to concentrate on finishing the season with Martin.' Hodge joined Liskeard's ECPL side under Roger James and John Maynard, then under managers Brian Olver, Tony Cawse and Phil Sullivan. This was followed by a year playing in the Western League under Ronnie Swiggs, Mike Easto and Steve Daley, before changing his allegiance for two years with Torpoint Athletic's South Western League side. Hodge took a two-year break before playing for two seasons as assistant to Chris Burchell with Liskeard's ECPL side. Hodge was made manager of the Blues second string when Burchell took over the running of the first team. This season is his eighth in charge. 'I think as a player I won the ECPL league twice and the League Cup twice and I was in the squad that beat Saltash United in the Cornwall Senior Cup,' Hodge added.
