Liskeard 4 Penzance A 4 Hockey resumed at Lux Park after the New Year break with this keenly contested game, re-arranged after the November snows. Liskeard started in sombre mood after the recent news that keeper Dean Starr is in hospital with leg injuries after a road accident. The club and team send their best wishes to Dean and his family, with hopes for a full and speedy recovery. With both teams in the lower half of the table there was everything to play for and Penzance started the stronger of the two. However, Liskeard counter-attacked with good performances by Jake Joyce and Paul Luiten down the left side. It was from an attack down the right that Rob Fraser crossed for Paul Queen to score with a superb strike. Penzance fought back to equalise, but Fraser then scored himself directly from a penalty corner with a fiercely struck shot. The half-time oranges appeared to have injected pace into both teams, but it was Penzance who equalised from another penalty corner, and then took the lead with a ferocious shot which broke the ball, leaving Dan Yeatman no chance in goal. Dan was otherwise having a fine game, making several key saves despite some minor problems with equipment. Straight from the re-start skipper Leon Barrow set up Fraser to score his second and the game looked over shortly afterwards when Fraser got his hat trick with another screaming shot into the corner of the goal to make it 4-3. Penzance did not give up and continued to surge forwards for an equaliser, and finally sneaked one just before the final whistle for a draw which was probably deserved on the performances of both teams. Special thanks go to Glayne Price for helping with the umpiring in unpleasant freezing conditions. It was so cold that two balls were broken during the match. Liskeard's next game is also at home tomorrow, with a 1.30pm pushback, against Truro. Training continues at Lux Park on Mondays at 7.45pm. All are welcome.
