AN important milestone was celebrated as the Saltash Chronicles Embroidery Project presented its work so far to the public.

Phase two of the ambitious community project is now almost complete, said organiser Andrew Tritton. Bringing together more than 60 local artists and craftspeople to produce an embroidered history of Saltash, the work will be 100 feet long.

Around 30 people are involved in the embroidery work, and some of these were busy at work in the Baptist Church Rooms as guests viewed completed panels which were on display.

Congratulating Mr Tritton, town mayor David Yates said that the project was 'a tremendous community activity' which demonstrated 'what has made Saltash – and what we are in Saltash.'

The finished work will depict more than 50 scenes and characters from the history of Saltash, including the bridges, the old ferry, Mary Newman, the Black Prince and Trematon Castle, and Captain Henry Jackson. It is hoped that the work will be finished in 2015.
