The Liskeard and Looe Foodbank says it has been another year of high demand from local families in need.
The organisation has seen almost 1,500 people being referred to its service in 2016, more than 500 of whom were children.
In its seven years of operation, the Liskeard and Looe Foodbank has distributed around 95 tonnes of donated food to more than 7,500 people.
In 2015, a new distribution centre for the branch was set up at St James’ Church in Torpoint, in conjunction with the town’s Churches Together group.
A spokesperson said: ‘No-one would have believed that in 2010, food banks would have been needed. Yet in 2017, the number of people referred to the food bank is expected to edge close to 1,500 for the year, including well over 500 children.
‘This shows that a large number of young families are finding it increasingly difficult to manage.’
