Hundreds of mourners gathered at St Stephens church in Saltash on Wednesday, February 4, for the funeral of a soldier who was killed in Afghanistan.

The funeral for acting Cpl Richard 'Robbo' Robinson, 21, was held with full military honours.

Cpl Robinson was killed after his patrol was ambushed on January 17 in Helmand Province.

Soldiers from the 1st Battalion the Rifles carried Cpl Robinson's coffin into the church.

Cpl Robinson's younger brother, Matthew, who is currently on leave and serves in the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards also attended.

Tributes have been paid since the news of Cpl Robinson's death by leading figures across Saltash, including town mayor Derek Holley and Isobel Bryce, the head teacher at his former school, Saltash.net.

Mayoress Margaret Holley said that there wasn't a spare seat in the church.

The family released a statement before the funeral saying how much they would miss him.

His father, Ken, said: 'Richard was an extremely precious young man and was always and will always be loved by his family.'
