Trainee sailors from HMS Raleigh have lent their support to the Echo Centre in Liskeard ahead of the town’s Lantern Parade today.

A group of 16 recruits spent the afternoon at the centre helping to create colourful lanterns for the parade. In keeping with the animal theme the lanterns ranged from a mythical bird to a sea lion, a penguin and a killer shark.

The recruits are part of Crean Division, HMS Raleigh rehabilitation division, which cares for trainees recovering from illness and injury, with the ultimate aim of returning them to training.

During their visit to the Echo Centre, a day resource for people with physical disabilities, the trainee sailors were able to chat with people who use Echo and staff members, sharing their experience of rehabilitation.

Crean Division hopes to form a close tie with the Echo Centre and continue to provide support to the people using the facility.

The parade takes place this evening.
