A centre helping victims of rape and sexual abuse is marking its 30th anniversary.

The Cornwall Rape & Sexual Abuse Centre (CRASAC) began on October 31, 1986.

Today, with more than 50 counsellors, the organisation provides support for survivors of rape and abuse.

Its services are available to woman, men and young people aged over 13.

The charity has seen more than 10,000 people in the past three decades with an average of 10 new clients approaching it for help each week.

Val Stanley, who was a founder member, said: ‘We opened the centre to address a very real requirement in Cornwall – to provide the confidential counselling and support that survivors desperately require, sometimes many years after an assault took place.’
