A family dealing with pancreatic cancer is organising a drive to raise awareness of the disease - and funds for research into it.

Sarah Andrew is setting up a fun fund-raising day on July 29 - and she and three other members of the family are tackling a big 10k run as well.

The fund-raising day takes place at Darite Village Hall on Saturday, July 29 from 1pm.

There’ll be a barbecue, a bouncy castle, face painting, games and more, plus a raffle supported with prize offers from local businesses including Adrenalin Quarry, Siblyback Lake and Newquay Zoo.

‘My father-in-law Peter Andrew is receiving his second lot of treatment for pancreatic cancer at the moment,’ said Sarah.

‘The condition has touched lots of people we know but it’s a cancer that doesn’t get as much attention and publicity as some of the other forms.’

The family - describing themselves as the Andrew Clan - are tackling the Plymouth 10k in Octyober to raise more funds.

Sarah, her husband Jonathan, his brother James, and Michael Porter who’s engaged to Katie Andrew, will be running.

They say: ‘The aim of The Andrew Clan mission is to raise vital funds for this sometimes forgotten cancer charity.

‘This charity is highly underfunded and does not always get the recognition of others.

‘We have had personal experience of the battle people go through to try and beat this terrifying cancer.’

All the funds raised will go to the national charity Pancreatic Cancer UK.

There’s a fund-raising page set up at justgiving.com and search for Sarah Andrew.
