A local pub has been closed in connection to a positive Covid-19 test.

The Railway in Saltash, which is owned by former Saltash mayor Gloria Challen and her husband Neil, closed its doors to put measures in place after they were informed that a person who has now tested positive for the coronavirus had been on the premises.

A notice was placed on the door on Monday, stating: ‘Sorry folks, we are closed this evening due to unforeseen circumstances. Hopefully see you all tomorrow evening!’

A message was since posted on the pub Facebook page saying: “We have worked hard to put all the measures in place to keep our staff and customers safe; however we have been informed that an individual who is now COVID-19 positive visited our premises.

“We have followed Government guidelines in terms of collecting customer contact details. The pub is now closed for a deep clean and we are awaiting further instruction from the NHS Test & Trace team. We will reopen the premises when it is safe to do so.”

The Bullers Arms in Landrake, which is also owned by the Challens, has also been closed for a period but a note on its Facebook page says it will be opening from 4pm today (Thursday).

Both Facebook pages were either taken down or went down for part of yesterday but have since reappeared.

This comes amid fears of a new spike in coronavirus cases, with new government guidelines and laws due to take effect from Monday 14 September.
