THE Talland Bay Hotel near Looe announced on Friday that it was having to close due to a number of staff having tested positive for COVID.

A message from general manager Jack Ashby-Wright on the hotel website said: "The hotel has had to close for 10 days. We have had to close our doors due to a large COVID-19 spike amongst the staff.

"We have positive cases at the hotel and therefore we have no choice but to close.

"We have taken every precaution, followed the guidance and the virus has still got into our staff barracks.

"We have attempted to contact all of our guests who have reserved either a room or a table. If we haven’t contacted you, it is due to having the incorrect information against your booking.

"We are hoping to return on September 6 but this is only the next marker point to see if we can open.

"We have tried our best to contact everyone and we have tried our best in organising what happens next - it is now a waiting game, therefore please be patient, please be kind and please give us time to think and do the right thing.

"Any guests who have eaten, stayed or popped in for a coffee, I suggest you should have a PCR test done to ensure you are negative. NHS Track & Trace may have been in contact already.

"There will be limited services and the phones are not being manned so please be patient, we will answer your enquiry as soon as possible."
