Fishermen and their families are being offered free dental checks and emergency treatment in six Cornish fishing ports including Looe.

Building on the success of the past two years, SeaFit is partnering with Smile Together to provide this much-needed service to local fishermen and their families.

The #SmilesAtSea tour will visit Looe on Thursday, September 12.

SeaFit Project Delivery Manager Carol Elliott said: ‘We know how hard it is to fit in a visit to the dentist if you’re out at sea, so, just as before, we’re making it easy by bringing free dental check-ups, immediate dental treatment and oral cancer screening to the harbourside.’

The dental teams will be joined by a wide range of health and welfare providers including SeaFit Healthy Lifestyle Advisors, a mental health practitioner, cancer support specialists from Macmillan and Prostate Cancer UK, and the Fishermen’s Mission. A healthy lifestyle advisor will be available to deliver NHS Health Checks, measuring body mass index, blood pressure and cholesterol and to chat about lifestyle behaviours such as smoking and alcohol and how to make healthier choices.
