A NEW partnership between Saltash United and the town’s leisure centre will help boost the health and fitness of players - and it’s hoped, the centre too.
An agreement was finalised earlier this week which will see Ashes footballers and fitness coaches able to use the facilities at the centre, which is just nearby on the Callington Road.
A spokesperson for the club said: “Saltash United Football Club is delighted to announce the launch of a new partnership with Saltash Leisure Centre, helping further our ties with the local community and business.
“We are incredibly excited to be partnering with one of the cornerstone businesses in the town. The partnership will bring huge benefits to both parties: the players at our club get access to first class gym equipment and pool facilities. This will ensure that our players can maintain their fitness levels throughout a challenging season in a new higher division, it will also give our injured players an opportunity to rehabilitate easier.
“The leisure centre is going through some battles of its own right now with public consultations ongoing regarding its future. We hope that this partnership demonstrates the importance of the centre to the local area. We believe that Saltash United Football Club and Saltash Leisure Centre are two vital organisations within Saltash and by joining forces it can only be great for the town moving forward.”
Saltash BETTER Leisure Centre manager Ben Wilkinson said: “In a nutshell, it’s great to be working with a local club for their players to gain and maintain fitness, or in some cases rehab, during a rigorous season.
“Hopefully it will allow them to progress or sustain the level of football they are currently playing and be successful.”
He added that he hoped that wider friends and family of the club might also join up as members.
