A range of community-based courses are being offered to help people in Cornwall who may be experiencing mental health problems.
The short courses are part of the national Government-funded Community Learning Mental Health Pilot (CLMHP), looking to test the effectiveness of targeted adult education courses in supporting recovery from mild to moderate mental health problems.
The courses, provided by the Cornwall College Group, are free to attend and cover a range of topics such as watercolours, photography, creative writing, horticulture, mindfulness and others.
Val Walkden, curriculum lead for mental health at Cornwall College said: ‘Our experience of working with people with more severe and enduring mental ill health has shown that informal community learning really can help with recovery.’
These informal courses are led by experienced tutors and are open to anyone over the age of 19 who is experiencing problems such as stress or depression.
A personal learning adviser is also on hand to provide extra support and guidance for anyone feeling anxious about getting out and trying something new.
