A group providing therapy for dementia patients with plenty of fun and laughter thrown in is making a call for volunteers in South East Cornwall.

Turning the Cogs meets once a week in Liskeard and in Saltash.

The sessions include physical activities, games and puzzles as part of a programme proven to help maintain memory and stimulate brain function.

Just as important is the social side of things and the break provided for carers.

Turning the Cogs would like to expand and hopes to start a session in Looe.

‘This is such a beneficial thing, it really does work, and people tell us they love the social aspect,’ said facilitator Julia Venning.

‘We are desperately in need of more volunteers, it’s the only thing holding us back really.’

Turning the Cogs staff will join Plymouth Dementia Alliance at Drakes Circus in Plymouth tomorrow (Saturday) as part of national Dementia Action Week.

Anyone with questions about services available or concerns about dementia can pop by for a chat between 9am-6pm
