The Abbeyfield Saltash Society recently held a cream tea to celebrate 60 years since Richard Carr-Gomm set up the first Abbeyfield House care home for elderly people in Bermondsey, London. The event was well supported and the society asked Mayor of Saltash Hilary Frank to assist in placing a plaque in the garden of Cresta, the Abbeyfield home in the town’s Callington Road, in memory of the late Hazel Greeves, a former Saltash citizen of the year as well as being an Abbeyfield volunteer.
