A PRESENTATION to a long-term member of staff at Callington Town Hall was made this week when manager David Jones retired. Paying tribute to Mr Jones, Portreeve Jeremy Gist said that whatever the occasion he was there on hand to help. 'Whether it is me in a panic or people are putting on an event, everyone has always found David on hand to help. 'He will be a hard act to follow. Thank you for a job well done.' Mr Jones said he originally started the job in 1987 and following his interview was rung early next morning to confirm his role. He said that he thought there were two important things that happened during his time as manager of the hall. The first was when the town council took control of the hall, allowing for repairs and upkeep to be carried out. The second was the purchase of a good piano which attracted entertainers and still brings in good musicians. Mr Jones, who leads the town's remembrance day parade, was presented with a new drill cane and his wife Hazel with a bunch of flowers. Brian Gilbert will replace Mr Jones as manager.
