A SPECIAL delivery by Looe Lifeboats is helping to keep holiday memories alive for one lucky youngster.
Two-year-old Neal Klink and his parents,§ from Switzerland, had visited Looe Lifeboat station many times during their summer holiday in Cornwall. The little boy developed a real fascination with the lifeboat crew and their equipment, said spokesperson Laurie Watson.
‘During his holiday Neal visited the lifeboats station at least four times and collected every flyer, poster and sticker of the RNLI,’ said Laurie.
‘He was particularly interested in the poster showing ‘Stan the lifeguard,’ and back at his holiday cottage, Neal would role play as Stan saving a little boy in a sailing accident, using the sofa as a lifeboat.’
As a keepsake of his trip, Neal had bought a Looe Lifeboats hat – but the souvenir was lost on the family’s way home across Europe.
When Looe volunteers heard about the missing hat, they wasted no time in sending a replacement to the little boy, who lives in the Swiss capital, Bern.
‘Neal’s life-saving role play is now ongoing on his own sofa in Switzerland,’ said Laurie.
‘He now has the poster of an Atlantic Class 75 lifeboat, the same as at Looe Lifeboats, on his wall at home – and, of course, he wants to be a lifeguard when he grows up!’
