People in South East Cornwall will be joining in the celebrations of Her Majesty’s 90th birthday today (Thursday, April 21).

Looe Town Council is organising the town’s part in the chain of beacons that the Queen herself will start to mark her milestone.

A celebratory evening on Thursday, April 21, will centre around the lighting of the beacon on The Wooldown, East Looe, at 7.30pm. There will be musical entertainment from Looe Community Academy Band, St Pinnock Band and the Looe Ukulele Club. The event starts at 6pm.

There is strictly no parking along Bay View Road, Meadway, Barbican Hill or Barbican Road.

A park and ride facility will operate from Looe Community Academy car park.

The town council will also be presenting official commemorative coins to all children within the boundaries of Looe aged up to and including 16 on or before August 31, 2016.

Liskeard will be joining the chain of beacons, lighting one at the top of St Martin’s Church tower at 8.30pm.

Duloe plans to light a beacon at 7pm, with details of the location yet to be decided.

In Saltash, a limited edition coin issued by the Royal Mint to mark the Queen’s birthday has been ‘buried’ under a square in a large treasure hunt map of the town. The winner will be announced after all the squares have been sold for £1 each.

Torpoint will be celebrating with the lighting of a beacon in Rendel Park, Ferry Street, at 7.30pm. Torpoint Town Band will be playing.

The beacon on Beacon Hill, Crafthole, will be lit at 8.30pm and Sheviock Memorial Hall in Crafthole will be open from 7pm for refreshments.
