LOCALS and visitors to Polperro could be in for a refreshing start to 2018 with the first ever New Year’s Day Dip in the village.

The bracing swim in the sea on January 1 will be raising funds for a second defibrillator in Polperro as well as for the RNLI.

The event is being jointly organised by Rosina’s gift shop and the Blue Peter Inn, who have promised complimentary drinks to those brave enough to ‘take the plunge’, along with a meal for two for the first in the water.

Registration will take place at 11.45am next to the beach steps.

New Year’s Day dips will also be taking place in Looe and Cawsand.

In Looe, the RNLI is hoping the 2018 dip will be the biggest in the town. Registration takes place from 10am with the event set to start at 11am.

In Cawsand, the Torpoint and Rame Lions Club organise the annual fancy dress dip, and sponsorship money is shared between the Lions and causes nominated by dippers.

Registration is from 10.30am at the Maker with Rame Community Hall in Kingsand, with the swim scheduled for 12.30pm.
